Taking Shape is a resource for teaching primary students geometric and spatial reasoning. This workshop was to explore how to effectively use of the Taking Shape resource kit which includes class sets of manipulatives and corresponding lesson plans. The lessons and activities are designed to provide opportunities for students to explore symmetry, mentally rotate objects, and practice perspective taking.
This workshop was lead by Cynthia Morrow, the numeracy coordinator of SD73. Through this workshop myself and other educators explored and tried the hands on activities, discussed the pros and cons, and had the opportunity to ask questions to further our understanding. By participating in this workshop I received online access to Taking Shape so that I can engage my students in these inclusive, hands-on lesson activities.
