Professional Standards for British Columbia Educators

The Professional Standards for Educators are a guiding document related to the professional expectations and ethical practices of teachers in British Columbia. The relatively recent inclusion of the ninth standard highlights the importance of incorporating and respecting Indigenous ways of knowing into one’s teaching pedagogy. I think the professional standards create clear expectations for teachers to create a positive learning culture and engage in ongoing professional development. The Professional Standards demonstrate the BC Teacher’s Councils dedication to continued growth of teachers as professionals and as members of a progressive society. As an educator, I feel the Professional Standards provide a scaffolding to guide teachers as they strive to reach their professional and personal bests.
