When I signed up for the Mindful Self Compassion workshop with Dr. Bernita Wienhold-Leahy I thought it would be about how to teach students about mindfulness and techniques or activities that could be implemented in the classroom. Through reflection and discussion with others in the workshop, I realized that I need to do the work first before I can help my students engage in genuine mindfulness. My dedication to be the absolute best educator I can be motivates me to push through uncomfortable moments and to engage in the mindfulness activities. In addition to being able to share the power of mindfulness with my students, I think that learning to be mindful is a proactive way to protect myself from burning out as an educator.
