Epic is a digital reading platform available for students and educators to access audiobooks and learning videos. Access to this platform allows for student choice and promotes independent learning. This is a great resource for teachers to use in literacy centers or in guided research projects.

This website by Nicole Gorman, the teacher librarian at Juniper Ridge Elementary, provides high-quality information that is explicitly aligned with the BC Curriculum. The website contains readily available resources to support the creation of units, clearly organized by grade and topic. Teachers could save themselves some time if they check out the Curriculum tab before they start designing their units for the year.

Movement breaks are critical to student well-being and help with setting the stage for learning. Guided dances are a great way to get students moving and provide a nice way to transition throughout the day. There are age-appropriate guided dances for all grades which are generally safe and accessible to follow along with through GoNoodle, KidzBop, and Just Dance videos.

Write to Read is an organization focused on increasing literacy equity for rural and remote Indigenous communities. Write to Read organization provides literacy materials to remote Indigenous communities. Learning centers and libraries have been built to increase access to books, tablets, computers, and high-speed internet in rural and remote areas that have been historically underserved. Teachers working in remote Indigenous communities should be aware of the literacy support and resources available from this organization.

This storybook demonstrates the journey of science, the mistakes that have been made along the way, and how ideas are always growing and changing as we find out more information. Functions great as an introduction to a science unit. Other topics and books in the “Boy Were We Wrong” series to explore; Weather, Dinosaurs, Human Body. It is important to build flexible minds that are willing to make mistakes as a part of learning.

There are available podcasts, books, and videos by Dr. Vanessa LaPointe that discuss ideas around managing challenging behaviours and how children could be communicating through that behaviour. She describes and connects children’s level of regulation to their level of connection to those around them. She believes in the importance of personal well-being so that we can show up as our best selves for the children in our care. Dr. Vanessa LaPointe has concrete suggestions for setting boundaries with children with a developmental and growth mindset.

There are episodes in this podcast that help connect theory to best practices that could be implemented in the classroom. This is a great tool for teachers that want to learn more about how to effectively teach young children to read.

This resource can help teachers target a specific musical skill or concept through the organization of it’s search engine. Teachers can also filter by grade level, really narrowing down the songs that will provide students opportunities to experience a musical concept. It is a great resource that is ready to use and can help support teachers that lack a formal musical background.

First Voices has been a helpful tool for learning different Indigenous languages. The Secwepemc and Sylix Home Pages have been particularly helpful for practicing the pronunciation of words and demonstrating the connection between language and place.
